When life gets hard, our pets are often our biggest source of comfort, always there with a wagging tail, gentle eyes, and unconditional love. But what happens when life gets so hard that we struggle to care for them the way they deserve?
Through The Locke A. Taylor Compassion Project, we meet people every day who are doing everything they can for their pets but are facing impossible choices. Bones’ story is a reminder of why compassion matters so much.
Bones is a sweet senior German Shepherd mix, the kind of dog who has been by his mom’s side through thick and thin. His mom, a longtime client and elderly woman living on a fixed Social Security income, has always done her best to care for him. But recently, life has thrown more challenges her way.
With a car that doesn’t run and mounting financial struggles, she found herself in a heartbreaking position, knowing Bones needed important medications, but unsure how she could afford them. The thought of not being able to give her beloved boy what he needed was overwhelming.
That’s where The Locke A. Taylor Compassion Project stepped in. We were honored to help cover the cost of Bones’ medication so he could stay comfortable and healthy, and stay right by his mom’s side, where he belongs.
But our help doesn’t stop with one-time emergencies. We also assist with the cost of long-term medications for pets living with chronic illnesses, like arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, and more. Because we believe every pet deserves to live with dignity, comfort, and care.
For many pet owners, especially seniors on fixed incomes, these ongoing expenses can be overwhelming. Our goal is to lift that burden, so they never have to choose between caring for themselves or their beloved pets.
It’s hard enough worrying about your pet’s health when they’re aging, no one should have to add financial fear to that list of worries. Our mission is to be there in those critical moments when a little bit of help makes a life-changing difference.
Bones’ mom has always done everything she could to take care of him. We were proud to help her do that when she needed us most.
Because of generous supporters like you, Bones is home, getting the care he needs, and continuing to be the loyal companion he’s always been.
