Emergencies with our pets are some of the scariest moments we can face as pet owners. In an instant, everything changes. They’re happily playing one minute, and the next, they need life-saving care. It’s a heartbreaking and overwhelming experience. And for so many families, the fear and anxiety of a veterinary emergency are made even worse by a gut-wrenching question: How are we going to pay for this?
This is where the Locke A. Taylor Compassion Project steps in. And this is Yoda’s story.
Yoda, a sweet Doberman puppy, didn’t have an easy start to life. She was rescued from a puppy mill, overlooked and unwanted because of her “funny” ears, which ultimately inspired her name. But what some people saw as imperfection, her forever family saw as pure uniqueness and beauty.
Yoda is playful, energetic, and like many young dogs, she loves to explore the world with her mouth. Unfortunately, that habit of chewing and swallowing things she shouldn’t led her into serious trouble.
When Yoda needed her second foreign body surgery, her family was devastated. They had already faced this battle before. But now, on top of fearing for Yoda’s life, they were also facing the terrifying reality of how to afford another surgery so soon.
That’s when The Locke A. Taylor Compassion Project stepped in to help with the cost of her surgery. Because of compassionate donors and supporters, we were able to help when it mattered most.
Stories like Yoda’s are exactly why our mission exists. It’s hard enough worrying about your beloved pet when they’re facing a medical emergency, never mind worrying about how you’re going to afford it.
Our goal is to be the helping hand in those moments, to provide hope and relief to families caught in the storm of crisis. Because every pet deserves a chance to heal, and every family deserves to hold onto the animal they love.
Thanks to the generosity of people like you, we covered a portion of the cost of surgery. Yoda is now back home, safe and healing, surrounded by a family who adores her, funny ears and all.
If you want to help us continue to say yes to pets like Yoda, please consider making a donation. Your support means we can be there in those critical moments, helping families when they need it most.
