When a six-year-old decides what he wants most in the world, it feels big. For one little boy, the dream he saved his money for was a dog.
When the family visited the shelter, he and Samson instantly connected. Samson, an 11-month-old puppy with a mischievous streak and a heart full of love, quickly became part of the family.
A few weeks ago, Samson managed to chew up something he should not have. It was something leather, although no one is sure exactly what it was. It could have been a shoe, a toy, or even a purse. Whatever it was, it caused a serious intestinal blockage that left Samson in extreme pain and very sick.
He needed urgent care followed by emergency surgery. The family had cared for many pets over the years, and Samson was their newest addition. But no matter how long you have loved a pet, facing a sudden medical crisis is overwhelming. It becomes even harder when you also have to worry about the financial burden.
Thanks to a skilled veterinary team and support from the Locke A. Taylor Compassion Project, Samson received the surgery he needed to remove the blockage. The project helped contribute to the cost of his care, which made it possible for the family to move forward with treatment.
The surgery was successful, and Samson recovered fully!
Helping Samson did more than save a dog. It protected the heart of a little boy who would have been devastated to lose his best friend. Today, Samson is healthy, loved, and very much part of the family that hoped for him, saved for him, and fought for him.
Pet emergencies can happen without warning. Families often face them during already stressful times. The Compassion Project helps fill the gap when unexpected medical care becomes overwhelming. It gives families hope and allows pets to return home where they belong.
